Rongwu Expressway Command and Dispatch System

Rongwu Expressway has installed a command-and-dispatch communication system to solve the coordination issue between the toll stations and the management center. Adopting beckiot IP PA/intercom dispatch system, it realizes remote monitoring, remote commanding and remote dispatching to keep the expressway running smoothly.
 
Project Background & Needs
Before 2014, China’s expressways still relied on manual toll collection. With the arrival of the smart era, the intelligent transportation service began to accelerate construction and deployment.
In expressway travel, ETC (Electronic Toll Collection) was introduced; it is especially suitable for expressways or busy bridges/tunnels. Today, expressway toll plazas have dedicated ETC lanes.
Expressway ETC
When passing through the toll station, drivers no longer need to stop or pay manually—tolls are automatically deducted from the card, achieving non-stop payment. This reduces the number of booth staff, cuts personnel and management costs for the expressway authority, and increases toll-plaza throughput by at least 5–10 times.
 
Although ETC brings faster and more convenient travel, problems can still occur. If incidents arise at the toll site—such as driver ETC failures, recognition errors, or vehicle breakdowns—traffic congestion is likely.
IP Dispatch Console
To solve the communication problem between the expressway toll stations and the management center, Rongwu Expressway required a command-and-dispatch communication system for coordination.
 
Solution
After learning about Rongwu Expressway’s situation,beckiot’s senior account manager, leveraging industry experience in the expressway sector, proposed the beckiot IP PA/intercom converged dispatch system. The detailed implementation plan is as follows:
Expressway Dispatch Room
1. Deploy one set of beckiot IP PA/intercom system in the central data room as the core command-and-dispatch server, connected to all dispatch terminal devices via the local-area network.
2. Equip the command-and-dispatch center with a touchscreen dispatch console; through the large-screen display, operators can conduct online video dispatching with toll-plaza sites and perform functions such as calling, intercom, broadcasting, and PA.
3. Install appropriate alarm/intercom terminals in each toll booth and deploy SIP speakers and sound columns on the toll plaza; all intercoms and other terminal devices are registered to the PA/intercom core server via a wireless cluster gateway.
4. Booth staff can establish a call to the command center with one button; on-site traffic police equipped with handheld radios, or drivers themselves, can use the on-site voice intercom devices to call the expressway command center for assistance.
5. External lines use analog trunks, registered to the PA/intercom core server, achieving an all-round multi-terminal converged communication.
